Montgomery General Hospital is a non-profit community hospital that serves the greater Baltimore and Washington, DC areas. Founded in 1920, amid a blizzard and flu epidemic, Montgomery General has offered excellent care and modern treatment facilities for the last 90 years.

In April 2010, Montgomery General is opening a new emergency department. The Howard R. Gudelsky Emergency Department will contain 41 beds, including 6 pediatric beds and 6 fast track beds with heart monitors. There will also be 22 treatment rooms and 5 crisis evaluation rooms.

Montgomery General Hospital already has a number of specialized treatment centers focusing on specific health issues. The Maternal Newborn Center, opened in 1994, offers private rooms and is staffed by highly qualified medical professionals, including neonatologists and experienced nurses. Montgomery General is the only hospital in the area with an O.B. Hospitalist on staff. The Helen P. Denit Center for Radiation therapy is a welcoming, patient-focused cancer treatment center that offers access to modern radiation oncology. The Addiction and Mental Health Center offers adolescent, adult and senior programs of outpatient, inpatient and partial hospitalization, as well as therapy and medication management programs. Addiction services include detoxification, rehabilitation and prevention relapse.

Other areas of medical expertise include a new Cardiac and Vascular program, a Diabetes and Nutrition Center and a Joint and Spine Center. Montgomery General also has a 15-bed traditional care center, founded in 1996, and a freestanding outpatient surgery center.

More than 8,100 patients are admitted to the 165-bed facility every year. There are 18,000 outpatient visits and more than 24,000 emergency room visits.
