Shady Grove Adventist Hospital is an acute care facility with state-of-the-art facilities located in Rockville, MD.  Among these facilities is a new, four story patient tower offers private rooms, including 48 reserved for new Moms and their babies.  Shady Grove is the first hospital in the area to provide a Birth Advisor to meet with expectant mothers prior to the birth.  The hospital also has a Level IIIB Neonatal Intensive Care Unit staffed 24/7 with neonatologists and offering access to a range of pediatric surgical specialists.  In addition, it has the only Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in Montgomery, staffed full time with a child life specialist.

Shady Grove also has a high tech surgery department that serves the needs of both in patients and out patients.

In January, Shady Grove expanded its Forensic Medicine Unit, which provides care and assistance to the victims of sexual assault.  Offering both forensic evidence collection and specialized medical care, this unit is the only one of its kind in Maryland.  Approximately 200 patients are served by the facility each year.

In 2006, Shady Grove opened a satellite emergency clinic in Germantown to meet the needs of upcounty patients.  The clinic, designed to provide urgent care for low acuity patients, sees an average of 78 patients per day.  Since opening, more than 34,000 patients have received care there.  The clinic's state of the art medical technology, including its Picture Archiving and Communication System, allows doctors to easily access records if patients are transferred to Shady Grove Hospital.  In 2008, Shady Grove partnered with Mobile Med Care Inc and the Department of Health and Human Services to open the 3000 square foot Mobile Med Open Health Clinic to serve the health care needs of the uninsured.  More than 1000 patients have been treated at that clinic. 

Other specialized services at Shady Grove include Bariatric Surgery, the Birth Center, Cardiac and Vascular: Cardiac Rehabilitation, the Chest Pain Center, and the Primary Stroke Center, Cancer Care, the Joint Center, the Sleep Disorders Center, the Wound Care Center and Pediatrics.  Surgical Services include: Abdominal, Bariatric and Metabolic, Cardiac and Vascular, Colon and Rectal, Gastrointestinal, General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Oncology, Orthopedic, Otolaryngology, Plastic Surgery, Thoracic, Urology and Weight Loss Surgery.

Shady Grove recently adopted the Planetree philosophy of patient-centered care.  This philosophy encourages patients to be actively involved in decisions about their care, and recognizes the importance of family support, nutrition, integrated therapies, music and art in treatment and recovery.

Shady Grove is also a part of the network of health services based in Rockville, MD and owned by Adventist Healthcare.  Facilities in the network include hospitals, home health agencies, nursing centers and other health care services.  Altogether, the network employs over 7000 health care professionals who treat more than 200,000 patients a year.  This makes it one of the largest emplyers in the state of Maryland.
